The Law of Attraction (LoA) is one of those universal ideas that anybody from any culture can use to their benefit. It’s an extremely powerful tool to focus on feelings of hope, faith, and positivity to improve your life.
When I first learned about the LoA, I was a young teenager. It was a hot Caribbean day and I decided to go to the biggest annual book fair of my city. I was strolling alone, with the midday sun punishing my neck, when a pretty book cover caught my eye: Rhonda Byrne’s ‘The Secret’. I took the book home and skimmed through it, but I didn’t think much of it at the time. To me, the LoA was just a lazy approach toward self-help. But the idea was, nonetheless, planted in my mind, and I started using it inadvertently.
Eventually, the Law helped me realize that I can at least dream big, why feel ashamed about wanting to live a prosperous life, even if it seems impossible? So, I started daydreaming about freeing myself from the limitations imposed by my environment. In hindside, I believe that the LoA helped me manifest many things that back then seemed implausible, such as a solo trip to NYC when I turned sixteen, and attending a prestigious college even without knowing what an SAT was. This might not sound like much, but it did feel like a miracle to me back then.
Nowadays, I use the LoA every day to foster gratitude and manifest loving relationships, jobs, promotions, travels and, of course, my amazing sabbatical. What do You wish to manifest? By the end of this article, you will learn how to start discovering what you truly want in life and start manifesting it today.
What is the Law of Attraction?
The Law of Attraction (LoA) suggests that your thoughts, emotions, and beliefs shape your reality and that you have the power to attract positive or negative experiences into your life based on what you focus on. But, before you think this is the solution to all your problems, think again and keep reading! While the Law can help you manifest your desires and create the life you truly want, you really need to understand how it works before you start seeing any results.

3 Immediate Benefits of Using the Law of Attraction
1. Manifesting Abundance:
One of the key benefits of using the Law of Attraction is the ability to manifest abundance in all areas of life. The LoA helps you explore your true feelings about wealth and money. Everybody wants to be rich, but few people are ready to accept the possibility of wealth in their lives.
Some people hold unresolved traumas or misconceptions about money, which blocks them from having a wealth mindset. For example, I grew up with religious leaders constantly reminding my community that “it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God”, Matt 19:23-24. But, while it’s true that money can corrupt, it’s also possible to foster a conscious millionaire mentality where you accumulate wealth through purpose and compassion.
So, by implementing the LoA correctly, you can attract the type of wealth that can benefit you and your community, which should be the goal.

2. Setting Your Goals:
Let me ask you this, do you know what are your life goals? If your answer is: “I want health, wealth & happiness”, you’re not wrong, but you’re also not right. Indeed, most people don’t know what they want in life, and this is essential when using the Law of Attraction.
If you’ve ever read good self-development books like Think and Grow Rich (Napoleon Hill) and The Four Agreements (Don Miguel Ruiz), you’ll notice that defining your goals is the first step to success. The reason I emphasize this so much is because, most people just want what society tells them they should want.
Most people are so sucked into the Maya Matrix that they are brainwashed with what the ‘others’ tell them they should want, such as: becoming a doctor, being thin (or thick?), traveling to trendy spots, getting that fancy new car, having kids before 35, gaining so many followers, etc. I can assure you, defining what you genuinely want for your life takes a lot of introspection. This is one of the reasons why I advocate sabbaticals for defining or redefining your life goals.
3. Reducing Stress and Anxiety:
As an army veteran with anxiety, I can attest that implementing the Law can significantly improve your overall well-being and happiness. By fostering mindfulness and consciously choosing positive thoughts, emotions, and beliefs, you can shift your mindset from a place of lack to one of abundance and positivity. But this takes practice! Your brain won’t simply switch from doom to bloom just by willing it. Luckily, part of my mission is to converge some of the best manifesting practices, apply them to my own life, and share my findings with you.
Overall, the LoA offers numerous benefits, including manifesting abundance, improving relationships, and enhancing well-being and happiness. By understanding and intentionally applying its principles, you could redesign and improve your life.

The Basics Principles of the Law of Attraction
Take out your Journaling Book and take note. To begin using the Law of Attraction effectively, it’s crucial to understand its basic principles:
1. Your Thoughts Create Your Reality:
- The Law of Attraction emphasizes that thoughts become things. What you consistently think about and focus on will manifest in your life. More specifically, your thoughts generate emotions (good or bad), your emotions change your natural vibration, then, your vibration attracts things or situations that match such vibrations. Therefore, it’s essential to be mindful of our thoughts and choose positive possibilities over negative memories. But beware of toxic positivity!
- It’s normal and natural to feel bad or sad If you ever feel negative, you should simply accept those negative waves and allow them to pass through. Then, gently, bring yourself back to your ’happy place’ by refocusing on your mantras, vision board, physical exercises, etc.
Thoughts = Emotions = Vibrations = Your Reality
I strongly recommend this book to help you understand how to deal with negative emotions: “Awakening the Buddha Within: Tibetan Wisdom for the Western World”, by Lama Surya Das.
2. Emotions and Vibrations:
- Our emotions are indicators of the vibrations we are emitting to the universe. Positive emotions such as joy, gratitude, and love align us with abundance; while negative emotions like fear, doubt, and anger repel it. By consciously choosing positive emotions, we can attract what we desire. Remember, everything is constantly moving. Atoms are constantly moving. Since your cells are formed by atoms, your body is literally vibrating right now! You choose what type of song your cells dance to.
3. Beliefs and Limitations:
- Our beliefs shape our reality, often working on a subconscious level. The biggest challenge of implementing the LoA is taking the time to reprogram your subconscious mind. This implies creating new brain pathways that will replace old negative ones. By identifying and replacing limiting beliefs with empowering ones, we can open ourselves up to greater abundance and happiness.
How to Start Applying the Law of Attraction
To start incorporating the Law of Attraction into your life, follow these steps:
Step 1. Set Clear Intentions:
- Get cozy, grab your manifestation journal and begin by identifying and clarifying your desires. This is the most important step. Start by identifying important categories of your life. Once you’ve identified your categories, start describing how You want them to unfold. These categories may include, but are not limited to:
- Wellness
- Career
- Romance
- Family
- Wealth
- Lifestyle
- You have to summarize the story of You. You might not immediately have a clear idea of what you want, but the more you reflect on it, the easier it will get. This can take time, but you can start right now. Let me give you an example:
“Wellness: I am a healthy, fit and beautiful woman. I feel emotionally, physically, and spiritually fulfilled. I love myself. I love my body. I am free from others’ opinions of my body. I am resilient and I have energy to be productive every day. I practice yoga and prayer daily and I always feel relaxed. I am inherently valuable, and I add great value to my community”.
This is just an example. It’s up to you to define yourself. If you let others (your parents, the church, the news, the famous) define your entire identity, you will never have a chance to be authentic and share your authenticity with the world. But remember to always part from a feeling of positivity and abundance. Don’t write things like “I want to be the fittest girl in my company”. Also, try to separate your desires from your ego. This is extremely difficult to do. If you only want to become a doctor for the ensuing prestige, I’m here to warn you that becoming a doctor might not be what your higher self really wants.

Step 2. Visualize Your Desires:
- Visualization is a powerful tool for manifesting. Close your eyes and vividly imagine yourself already living your desired reality. Engage all your senses and feel the emotions associated with your manifested desires. Try doing this as a daily meditation practice, preferably early in the morning or as you’re about to fall asleep. Start with short five-minute sessions and then gradually increase your daily meditation time. Remember, consistency and quality are your keys to success. Building a Vision Board can help you visualize your ideal life every day.
Step 3. Affirmations and Positive Self-talk:
- Use positive affirmations and self-talk to reprogram your subconscious mind. Repeat affirmations such as “I am worthy of true love” or “I am worthy of infinite abundance” to reinforce positive beliefs and immediately increase your vibration frequencies. Affirmations are like modern mantras. Use them wisely and cast your spell!
Step 4. Practice Gratitude:
- This is crucial. Like Oprah once said, “the only prayer that’s ever needed (is): thank you, thank you, thank you.” Say it with me right now… “thank you Source/God/Universe.” Did you feel something? If you didn’t, don’t worry. Just try to focus on something that is good in your life, such as the air you breathe or your cozy home. Cultivating an attitude of gratitude requires daily practice and some time. Take time each day to express gratitude for the blessings, opportunities, and experiences you currently have. Keep a gratitude journal or simply mentally list what you are grateful for. By the way, thank You for being here, my dear reader.
Step 5. Take Inspired Action:
- Yep, the Law of Attraction requires Action! And that’s the beauty of it. Once you’ve taken your time to lay out your plan, you’ll be more than inspired to take action. You will notice that you feel lighter, more hopeful. Your mind will start to divert energy from your negative neural pathways to your positive neural pathways. And with love and consistency, those changes can become permanent. You will also see how new opportunities and synchronicities will arise as you align your thoughts, emotions, and actions with what you want to manifest.
Don’t stop here! Join the tribe and stay motivated.
